Mesa quad preamp reissue ?

Wonder why mesa hasn't come out with the Quad preamp reissue ? Looks like they would sell pretty good...

Even if there's a reasonable amount of demand (which I'm not totally sure there is,) I have to guess the biggie is that it's not all that rare/expensive. Probably wouldn't have a huge profit margin either: I'm no expert, but it would seem to me it wouldn't be the cheapest box in the world to manufacture. I don't know, but I have to guess that even despite the seeming surge in price over the past few years (I didn't pay much attention, but got mine for like $350 about 5 years ago) they're probably fetching less than the original list price (anybody know for sure what they went for new? All i could find was a reference saying that "... for the price of a Quad new, you could easily buy an entire Marshall stack")

I'd be fine though, assuming it drove the price of originals down, because I really want a backup

Looks like we're gonna have to settle with 20+ year old boxes for at least a little while longer.

I highly doubt they would, though I'd love to see it. I don't think they'd do such a thing as long as they still manufacture the Triaxis...and believe it or not the Triaxis is 18 years old!

It doesn't look like Mesa wears the Mark series on their hat like they used to. Since the Rectifiers came out its been Recto this, Recto that. I love Rectos, but as far as I'm concerned the Mark sound is "the Mesa sound". As of now they don't make any Mark amps, which means a new one is probably on its way.

Personally I think the Quad and Studio preamps were too good to be true. I doubt they made much profit off of either when they did manufacture them. Now at least they float around on the used market and continue to give Mesa a good name! 8)

I also doubt a Quad reissue will ever surface.... Perhaps a combination of the Triaxis and Recto pre is more likely down the track...

I feel that to do a reissue the amp should be at least over 25 years old and a Studio pre may be the more cost friendly item to reproduce.

But... is the demand really there? Like many people who own these preamps I am happy with my Quad and would not replace it with a new one at a presumably scary price. Therefore Mesa is going to have to sell these to new users and I am not sure if the market is right for that yet... opinons anyone?

Yes, Mesa's competition would be the used market itself. Of course I'd buy a used one for $650 than a new one for who knows how goddamned much.

Mesa has only ever reissued one amp. What makes you think a rack pre of all things would be next on their list?

These quads sell as fast as they are posted on ebay.. and it might be weeks before you see another.. it seems the demand is pretty high for these... they go for 650 to 850 with and without the foot switch.. about the same price as the recto pre used. So a new reissue at about 1400 w/fs dont seem to far out there.. I'll always buy the used ones. but it looks like boogie would go for the bucks..

I really doubt there will be a reissue. That is why I got me a Quad when I had the chance.

Think Mesa is pretty convinced that triaxis outdoes the Quad, even though that is well untrue. Quad packs a punch that can decimate a Triaxis with ease. It's kinda like putting a muscle car against a tuner car.

Yep I know what you mean.. I've owned several years ago and then about 15 years went buy without one.. and lots of other amps.. I just bought one and over paid ... and was happy as hell to get it. I might even buy another one if I can find a deal.. I also like the studios.. they are just great preamps..

Ok... No reissue. These preamps 'will' take away sales from their mainstream products. Mesa cannot jack prices for a reissue while there are so many out there still in circulation.

Now, if Mesa made a product that incorporated the Quad/Studio Pre and Triaxis.. to keep up with the Mark V, then maybe, just maybe there will be a demand.

It's not happening. Enjoy your quads/ studio pre's... eBay and other online auctions are your friends... enjoy!

Oh... let me just add.. there is another preamp that fits this bill, have we seen one... NO! Bogner Fish Preamp. This sucker was just too good.

I am under no circumstances gonna sell my quad ever. I have yet to discover the full potential of this baby once I get a reasonably good power amp, speakers and EQ to go along with it.
Triaxises seem nice and practical but there's just something amazing about a big badass preamp like the quad. It makes Triaxis look like a toy amp.

I have both Quad and Triaxis and cannot tell which I prefer... (So I keep them both!).
The Quad sounds huge with more dynamics and a more pure sound then the Triaxis. The Triaxis is more versatile and gives more switching-options then I would ever use. A combination of both would be the best of both worlds, or even better Add the MK IV as well.
They should develop a newer Triaxis, based on the simplicity of the Quad.
Midi Switching and all the original Mark-circuitry boards in it.... no advanced electronics to save space, just the basics with midi-switching in one device.... If that happens, I'll sell my amp switcher...
