I hope I am allowed to post an advice thread in here. I have found a listing for a Mark IV rackmount size head, perfect condition; smoke-free, climate-controlled enviornment with a two and a half year warranty for $1475 shipped.

I was hoping you guys could tell me about how good or bad of a deal this is. Should I go for it?

That's not a bad price but it's not fantastic either. You figure with all fees, shipping, insurance you're looking at 1400 for that head. Unfortunately the Mark IV's price fluctuates heavily, I've seen some go for 1000 all the way up to 1600. If there is still a transferable warranty and the power tubes are low life then I'd say you should go for it personally if you really want the amp.. especially if you're looking for a rackmount. There are two on ebay for under 1000 right now as combos and one as a head that's at 1200 w/ a 1450BIN. Just some food for thought.

If you can haggle him a bit, I'd ask for 1400 total just to give it a shot.. worst he can say is no.

Ya, ebay is where I was looking. I'm not "specifically" looking for a rackmount, but I'll take what I can get as long as it's the head rather than the combo, I don't particularly care for combos. I'll try to ask the guy if he'd let it go for $1400. But overall, this isn't one of those deals that'd be stupid not to jump all over, right?

They can still be had for $1000, especially on CL and when the bay gets overloaded with them. Personally, I wouldn't spend over $1100 for one.

No, it's not something I would consider a 'must buy' personally.

good luck with your search!

I think still having the warranty is a big plus. You can romp on it as much as you want and you have two years to "get the bugs out".

I saw that listing and it looks like it comes with the rack shell, the wooden head, all sorts of goodies, yes?
