I was wondering if anyone had changed out there black shadow speaker for a vintage 30 in the F-50 cabinet? If so how did you like it or not like it

Thanks

To revive this... I'm interested myself.

Though I dig the C90.... I have a LOT of them in several of my Mesas.

I'm going for a slightly different flavor in my new F-50

OH.. and BTW... what ohm is the speaker? (it's at my rehearsal spot at the moment, so I can't look!)

With my Nomad 45 1x12 combo I've been through a speaker swapping period. I've tried V30, ClassicLead 80, Eminence Texas Heat, Eminence Red White & Blues and even shortly the OEM Eminence that come with Fender amp. Every speaker stayed a few month in the amp so I could get used to the tone

To my ear and taste, the C90 is still the most apropriate for the tone I'm looking for.
V30 was better for lead but not for clean
Classic lead is close to the C90 but still different. To me the C90 is NOT a relabeled or clone of CL80.
Both Emi were just fine but nothing more, TH was too dark after beeing broken in. Both were also less efficient than Celestions, when combined the Celestions always dominated.
Surprisingly the (mostly despised) Emi OEM Fender sounded pretty good.

But eventually the C90 came back in.

Now I recently bought an F50 combo and tried those speakers again (except V30 that I don't have anymore), albeit not in the F50 enclosure but in a Carvin Legacy 2x12 and another 1x12 cab.
Same story here the C90 is in my opinion THE speaker for the F50, taming the brightness of channel 2, especially after beeing broken in.

I now run the F50 1x12 combo with an extra 1x12 cab with the Nomad's C90 and to me that's the best combination.

Best way for you anyway is to try one, should't be a problem since more than half of the cabs on the market an in music stores are V30 cabs
:)

Speaker in F50 is 8 Ohm btw.

Cheers
Fabien

I wouldn't think that a Vintage 30 would be a good choice for an open-back cabinet -- it's a speaker with a very loose spider, and such a configuration would likely be very prone to cone cry.

That said, I generally dislike V30s, so take this with a grain of salt.
