I've been hearing that the Mesa Boogie STR 440's are the way to go for METAL in terms of Power Tubes...

What are the differences in the ratings that they have? I'm referring to, there's a silver ring around the base of the tube that has something like: 10 AC RED

What is the "10" referring to, should I be looking for a specific number?

I play METAL, I need a tight low end gain.

The numbers and initials don't really matter much. It's the color that tells you the tube rating. The scale is:

Red
Yellow
Green
Gray
Blue
White

Boogies have fixed bias, so the tube must be properly matched to your amp. For instance, my Boogie IIC+ works best with red STR-440's in the outer Class A sockets.
