The Live.com eBay discount went up today to 30% (from 25%) if you use "Buy-It-Now" + PayPal on eBay auctions.
OK. Try this (we'll pretend you want to buy an EHX Small Clone, which is a killer analog chorus pedal made famous by Kurt Cobain):
1. You need an active eBay + PayPal account or this won't work. These are the two pre-requisites.
2. Navigate to http://www.live.com -- yes, this is Microsoft's main search portal.
3. In the search bar, type "Electro Harmonix Small Clone" (without the quotes) and click on the search icon
4. On the next page, note the top link. It should say something like: "Electro harmonix - http://www.ebay.com $ Live Search cashback"
5. Click on the link that says "Live Search cashback"
6. This will take you to eBay, but you'll be using a session started by Live.com. Note that the session will expire after about 30 minutes (?), so you can't wait forever to do the deal.
7. On the eBay screen, you'll see that your search string was trimmed to just "electro harmonix", so you'll need to re-key your original search term (whatever it was). In this case, just expand it to "electro harmonix small clone" and try again. Also note that there's a green image near the top of the page that says: "Microsoft cashback 30% - Must use Buy It Now and and PayPal."
8. Now that you've refined your search, all you have to do is find the vendor you want to deal with. I usually look for venders with free shipping and a 99% or better feedback score. In this example, the first vendor meets this criteria.
9. After clicking the link to the vendor's auction, you simply use "Buy-It-Now" to buy and pay for your item. The summary page will calculate the discount (30% today, it was 25% yesterday) and tell you when to expect the amount to be credited. The time period could be anything from 60 to 90 days, but in general most folks get the discount MUCH quicker than that.
10. Within a day or so, you'll get a piece of e-mail in your eBay account (not sure if it's from Microsoft or PayPal). Just read the instructions and follow them to complete the last steps to get the discount. And now you're done, and you've saved 30%! up to $200 per item.
