Alright, so I am very new to tubes, I have a couple of questions to ask you guys.

What are some good tubes to get for a Mesa Boog. Dual Rec.?
How much do tubes normally cost?
Can I f**k up putting the tubes in?

Keep in mind im only looking to spend up to 300 on tubes..

Thanks in advance,
-marc

P.S. The tubes I have now are 8 yrs old.. they are the orig. tubes

Power tubes: You have a lot of choices here...the standard two are 6L6s and EL-34s....I have recently put EL-34s in my recto, and I think they are much better than the 6L6s...really tighten up the bass and add some more crunch to the amp. A quad of these can run anywhere from $50-$70. This is for normal obviously....you can also go into NOS, or a bunch of different tube types. Currently, I am running JJ E-34Ls, and am very happy!

Preamp: Here is where you can really start playing. You can do almost any combination of preamp tubes. The one recommend by Doug's Tubes seems to be a popular one for Rectos. I'd e-mail him about it. Normally, this will run you about $50-$60....again, you can go much higher if you choose. Here, I would personally not recommend JJs as a sole replacement.

Rectifier tubes: For me, JJ takes the ball here again. The JJ GZ-34 rectifier tube is a big upgrade over the stock mesa rectifier. Really tightens the up, cleans it up a bit too, allowing you to use the dynamics of the tube rectifier without the mush.
