Hey guys, I'm looking for a power amp to go with my peavey rockmaster preamp.
I'd like to spend as little as possible, I could get a peavey classic 60/60 for about 185 shipped and was pretty set on it, then I saw a mesa 50/50 going for 450 shipped.
Should I fork out a little extra for the mesa? Is it much better?

I already have a mesa boogie mark iii, would a 50/50 be kind of redundant in this case?

Another option in that power range is the Peavey Classic 50/50 with EL84s. I have one that is a great match for my Rockmaster pre, and they are pretty affordable these days, too. I bought both of these units new in the early 90s, and have never had any problems with either, save for the usual fx loop jack issues with the Rockmaster. The EL84s are pretty punchy and this amp cuts through really well, used it often in my old bar band back in the day.

Hi
I havent had the Peavy, but have had the 50/50. I dont think it would make your mk 3 redundant, especially if you liked running stereo. The options would increase to running your mk 3 in stereo, out thru your 50/50. Great if you have any stereo out rack gear or the like, that you might run in your rig. My experience with the 50/50 was great. At the time I had a strategy 500, which weighed a ton, and the 50/50 which I favored for lower retube costs and ease of lug. Very reliable, resonable tube life, and certainly enough boot for most anything. Only other I would look at would be if there was a reasonable priced simul 2:90 floating about.
Good luck
Mick

I want to run a dual amp rig with mark iii going to 1 side of a 2x12 and rockmaster > poweramp into the other side.
I read about the peavey classic 50/50 but was thinking it might break up a little too early for my taste (just from reading other posts), the rockmaster has too much distortion so I thought a cleaner power amp might be a better fit for what I do. I wish I had the money to grab a few different cheap power amps to try out though, as that beats asking about them online. :/

The Peavey 50/50 has plenty of headroom before it starts to break up, though if you use the 3V output on the Rockmaster you can get into the dirt sooner. It is also bridgeable to mono.

I love my 50/50 and it's never let me down but I can't that I've ever heard anything but great things about the Peavey Classic. Very solid and I see them in a lot of rigs...they must be doing something right
