Hi

Just got a Triaxis- BUT don't have a power amp yet... considering an old Mesa 50/50 or Marshall EL84 20/20 as i don't have loads of cash and need to get up and running as soon as possible!!

My question is does the old 50/50 still have balls in the low output mode- i'm mainly a bedroom shredder but still love good tone at reasonable volumes- I have a THD Hotplate but don't want to 'choke' the sound too much with it. I play mainly metal- would the Marshall do the job ok, overheating etc is not an issue for me as I don't play gigs.

Also if i'm only using one side of the amp to run a single cab, should I turn the volume up on the channel i'm not using- someone said if i didn't it could damage the amp?

Thanks
Paul

The low power mode decrease voltage given to the drivers tubes. It soften a bit the attack, but you can crank the volume up to push the power tubes. I don't like a lot this mode BTW.
On the channel you're not using, leave the volume to "0" or you'll kill this channel's output transformer.
