Try the EVH 5150 III's channel 2 (blue channel), using all the range of the gain knob. I'm glad I did, when I was choosing my new amp and bought it over the Mark V and Engl Invader. I was looking for something more than "medium gain" but I have the amp for 7 months and I've found that the blue channel is something... but it is all down to personnal choices and likes. Find what it's best for you.

Give it a try, at least you will have more options to make the right choice.

EDIT: Oh, and I had a Roadster, before and have found that the EVH was more what I was looking for.

If we're talking Mesa amps, I liked the Express for mid gain a lot! The ED sounded great too. Mark V was okay, but was missing something, warmth, maybe... I dunno what it was exactly but it didn't provoke my interest.

If we're not talking Mesa amps (and to me, my Mesa rack rig doesn't have much of a medium gain tone or I haven't found one yet), there are a bunch of amps.
If you're in the EU, try the Hayden MoFo. BEST little crunch machine ever, at least to my ears. 30W to 2W switch, BEAUTIFULLY distributed gain (one of those rare amps that sounds good with gain on 10).
Marshalls are also the rock n' roll standard for mid gain tones but I'm kinda reluctant to mention them here since it's a Boogie board. :) If you want a low watter, get the Class5 and crank it to hell and back. Droolsville. The JVM is a sickeningly versatile crunch machine. The Vintage Modern is also a great mid-gain amp that gives you a bazillion tones with your volume/tone on the guitar itself, with surprisingly beautiful cleans to boot. **** for high-gain though and you gotta open it up a little to make it shine.
An amp that also surprised me when it came to mid-gain tones was the Peavey 6505. Heard one live once (opening act for Satraini) and I was blown away. Tried it myself at the store and holy crud, I was blown away again. One flaw though - that amp is LOUD as HELL.

That's what I can think of OTOH, hope it helps
