Just saw this Maverick prototype on ebay. (not my listing) Looks like a DC-2 with a tube rectifier. Very cool.

I want it. Seriously.

Nothing cooler then a Black Faced Maverick. Sexy! I have seen this listed before maybe a year or two ago. Same prototype number. I remember it well. I would say that if you want a Mav, it's cool but I wouldn't pay more then the normal rate for Mavericks for this just because it's a prototype. Mavs are not at all collectible or rare. They are fantastic amps, and I think the starting price is fair for it.

The clean is up there with the best Boogies to me. The dirty is almost unusable (to me and my playing) Way flubby and muddy. I think if I had a Strat, it would be a different story, but my guitars sounded bad with the dirty. I got the best sounds out of channel two when I used it as an alternate clean sound (like a Lonestar kinda) and ran pedals in front for medium gain sounds. The reverb on a Mav is also spectacular.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I love channel 1 of my mav. It sounds amazing just about any way you set it.

On the other hand, I can't find much to like about channel 2. It does sound better with single coils. P-90s seen to work best. But it's still just flubby and nasty. High-output humbuckers sound like crap. I changed the tubes around trying to improve it but it's still hard to like. A tubescreamer with Channel 1 sounds 10X better. I don't even use the footswitch.

 I seriously have to get my Mod Kits out there soon!

With just a couple of simple mods, the dirty channel can really sound a lot better. If you got it and don't like the dirty channel, shoot me a PM.

I figured It could be modded. And I love to improve it. However the extent of my experience inside an amp has been replacing one broken pot. Not sure I'm qualifed to be poking around at important parts.

Send me the chassis in a Priority Mail gauranteed rate box and I'll make it sing! :D

Andy, ...You're KILLING me man! :) I had just gotten over my gas for a Mav and now you say this stuff. LOL! I was eyeballing a Blue Angel, too. I just kind of embraced the fact that nothing is going to have a dirty channel that I am going to like (compared to my TOV) and settled with running (*gasp) high quality stomp boxes in front of an amp like a Mav or a Blue Angel with a stellar clean tone.

Killing me...absolutely killing me!

Wow... I really like the dirt channel on the Mav... I think the power tubes need to be run hot to draw the treble/top-end out of this channel. I've found it very usable with low output sc's and higher output hb's.
I've found that I like the Mav with Greenbacks which tends to help the top end for me...
The Hotplate also helps.
