Not tat tall. I always use .010s, on 6- and 7-stringers. I even use standard E tuning on both.

I really didn't mean to hijack this thread, but I've noticed a trend lately with alternate tunings. It got me to thinking about how long ago these amps were designed. There were no 7 string guitars back in the mid 1980's that I can recall. Maybe the newer amps are voiced to handle these lower frequencies better? It's going to be hard to teach this old dog..........., if you know what I mean. :D
 
my 7 stringers (I have 2) sound great thru my mark III.
you need to take the time to EQ the amp for the guitar.
I just finished a Nevermore jam session with my Mark III
and it sounded great. It doesn't sound just like a Recto, but IMO
better (in a chunkier Middier way).
