Hey mates

1) I have the Roadster and as i am not really a high gain guy (i like a fair amount of it but not too high gain) i'm thinking to sell it and buy the Mark V.

Don't get me wrong, i love my RS and it has great tones of it, 4 ch, lot of options etc. but i think it's generally mid-scooped voiced (maybe it's in my mind).

As i dont use the recto sound and i like more mid-oriented amps can Mark V gives me that kind of sound? I never played a mark amp before but as i read from reviews is really mid voiced...or not? if someone has the experience from both of them - RS and a mark(IV esp.) - please clarify it for me...

2) Can we know the dimensions of the Mark V? especially in lenght. Not that it's important but just for the curious :)

Thanks
V.

I always thought of the Mk's as more "mid capable", but I don't own one.

I know 2 people with Mk 1's (old amps, but still work great) and they had "mids for miles".
I know the Mk 2 c (c+) was known for heavy rock and metal capability and that usually means "scooped". But the Mk's are known to be versatile and able to cover many sounds/genres.

Hopefully one of the Mk owners here can give you more detail, but I don't think they are known to sound like a recto, by any stretch. 8)

my mark3 and mark4 have a lot of very good mids. at first I tended to scoop the mids (EQ) to "fatten" it up, but the more I play them, the less I do. bringing back the mids cuts through the mix very well and sounds sweet, imo...

I haven't played a 5, but it should have the same mids as a mark4, for the most part..

When I had my Mark IV I always played with scooped mids at first. Then that mid slider crept up little by little. Eventually I quit using the EQ all together.

Thanks guys
I'm waiting to hear it and i think i'll buy it if it's voiced that way

****.....

i also love my RS....but i can't afford both of them...and you can't have everything in life... :(
i'll see....

combo will be about the same as the 5:50 im told size wise.. actually is a little under of inch less in height, same width/depth. Also they guessed its about the same weight as a mkIV. i had asked about dimensions so i could get going on a road case (ordered a bubinga/wicker) and apparently someone went out to the build floor to measure right then. now THATS customer service!

I was told the rest of the head cabinet dimensions are still in fine-tuning stage.

Mates i read the Mesa's Product Reference Guide for 2009 and don't mention specs for MKV.
So, do you know the weight of the MKV's head?

geq can just as capably boost mids. the preset contour only cuts, however, so be forewarned. i find that to be useful to dial in an ultra-clean tone on ch 1. it all depends on your settings for the eq--parametric and graphic--to get whatever sound you want. yes, high gain i usually what mark series excels at, but having not had much experience with dialing middy stuff into a mesa, i would say the v does a very good if not excellent job at it. the versatility is a plus.

if you want the really grindy tone, you should consider a stiletto also, staying w/ mesas. have you any access to try one out?

as for dimensions, check here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360176330901&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

that's for a head. width seems to be accurate to me. the v is indeed shorter than the iv by just a hair (3/8"). do you need the dims of a combo? that's what i have. don't know about the height of the head version, but it should be the same height as a iv. the dims you can find usually on the interior dims of a road case are actually very accurate. i'll go home and post dims later.

No, i didn't try one out yet....but i've been told that mark series has all the smooth and liquid mids...i know that terms are subjective but anyway...

thanks for the dims from link!

glad they help! sorry they aren't also the dims from the combo. i asked about that a month or so ago, but i got no replies whatsoever. i feel like i'm a thread-killer. i'm surprised you even responded to me after that. :p

but seriously, if you find the dims for the head to be inaccurate, let me know.
