WOW :!:

Tonite I had a chance to get my new MKV to our practice space and hook her up to my 4X12 and get her to band volume.

What a clear and articulate amp. I really didn't mess with all the modes yet, I set up ch1 Fat, ch2 Mark I, & ch3 Mark IV and dialed in from there, guided by the sample settings in the manual for a starting point.

The cleans (ch1) in this amp are excellent, clear, thick, and glassy all at the same time. Right up there with my Roadster's cleans, which seem a little more bell-like.

I'm not sure what Randall was thinking with Mark I mode (ch2), man there's alot of bass in there. I've got my bass control at zero and the cab can get real flubby if I'm not careful with the G-EQ. I perfered this mode with my open-back Avatar C-90 loaded 2x12. The Recto cab just has too much bottom end. I was still able to dial in a great tone with the graphic EQ, but then ch1 & ch3 lost it's magic with those settings. I guess I'll be tweaking that for a while :D .

I've got to say that (ch3) Mark IV mode is where it's at for me. What a change of pace coming from a Recto. I dialed in a great lead tone right off the bat, and fell in love with the tight "urgency" of this amp. Smooth, creamy, and cutting for sure. I see now why it's said that a Mark series is a lead-players amp.

I think the best of this whole situation is that I dialed in all these great lead tones without a boost or EQ out front. Just Guitar ==> X2 Wireless ==> Amp. This is going to simplify my setup.

Now for the things I don't like. There's no external switching for the FX Loop or Reverb. This will force me to re-think most of my G-Major patches, and re-map my MIDI messages. It's no "deal breaker", just really an inconvience.

Overall it's a great amp. I've got the feeling my Roadster is going to gather a little dust for the first time in 3 years.

The amp gizmo has a Mark V-specific dongle that will enable you to access all of the footswitch options via MIDI, I'm seriously contemplating getting one. Try Crunch mode with no graphic or preset EQ, tons of Marshall goodness in that one.

On channel two to get rid of the too much bass, turn the presence up past 2:00 and and you will hear an increase in volume and more treble.
at least on mine it does, try it.

Thas right...and as far as what Steve said the amp gizmo solves that problem. Not much to pay for the convenience of having what you want....when you want it.With the ease of pressing one button.Keeping in mind that you have to pay a few more dollars for the markv specific cable...but its about what I spend just taking the family out to dinner for some mid scale dining.Hell man spoil yourself! Youve come this far hehe.

Thanks guys. I'll try turning up the presence and see how that helps with the bass in Mark I mode.

I'm sure the amp gizmo is a great piece of gear but I already have an Axess CFX4 in my setup and don't want to spend money to replace gear I already have.

What I need is the schematic for the MKV footswitch so I can make my own "dongle" cable.

I guess tastes vary on that one. I found it to be a total waste of a mode until plugging in EL34's, then it became awesome! With the 6L6, rubbish.....

I have played alot with Edge mode and found some great stuff using both 6L6 and EL34 tubes. I set it up for a light breakup rhythm sound. Think Mike Campbell/Heartbreakers or even alot of the cleaner tracks on just about any Foo Fighters cd. It's a heavier breakup than your typical Tweed setting but short of Crunch mode.
Try(different speakers may require more treble, I have v30s):
Gain - around 1 o'clock
Master - 11 'ish
Presence - just a dash, 9'ish
Treble - 11 o'clock
Mid - 11 - 1 o'clock
Bass - around 10 o'clock
