I currently own a Mark V combo (it's going back to California for repairs) and plan on buying an Axe Fx II in the near future. When I do get the Axe, I'll also get either the MFC-101 or Ground Control Pro. My question is this, will I need a Mini-Amp Gizmo or GCX to do the channel switching or will either of those foot controllers do the job on it's own?

Yeah, you'll need an RJM unit (amp gizmo, mini amp gizmo, or rack gizmo), GCX or some other tip-to-ground type switcher for that to work. I strongly suggest RJM.

If you intend on using the Axe via 4cm- make sure you invest in some hum buster cables- otherwise you will experience some horrible noise. Hum busters will eliminate that scenario.
