The Nova compared to the Replica, sounds so much more robust than the T-Rex. Although there is a slight boost in volume when engaging the Nova Delay, it comes in handy for solos. The mod on the repeats is understated and not really a good substitute for a strong chorus. I ended up buying a Nova Mod too ans run it through the loop. Sounds great. None of the other chorus pedals I had sounded good through the loop.

I use Fractal's AxeFX Ultra. Currently set up using the LF Jr to change effects in the AFX and the V Pedal for it's functions... a little bit of tap dancing but it's not bad... soon I'll get the Mini Amp Gizmo and set everything up via presets.

The thing I like about the AFX ( I ran it direct for 2 years prior to buying the V... as in no tube amp ) you can route certain effects to the V's Input and others to the V's EFL all with 3 short cables.

The mini amp gizmo works like a dream. You'll be very happy with it :). Isn't routing with 3 cables same as the 4 cable method with the ist cable going from the guitar to the AFX?

I use the 4CM with the BOSS GT-10 but I think I'm going back to 3 dedicated pedals (OD, Delay, Chorus) since I've realized that I prefer the simplicity of not scrolling through menus to set up tones etc. A little tap dancing is a fair compromise I think :) This time around I'm trying out only pedals with true bypass. My contenders are

OD/DS - Fulltone OCD or Xotic BB Plus
Delay - T-Rex Replica
Chorus - Red Witch Empress (This is actually better than the visual sound liquid chorus which i thought couldn't be beat)

If I like these pedals a lot then the GT and RJM will be on craigslist soon!

cheers,

Thanks man. I tried the nova delay at the shop yesterday and was very impressed but I decided to keep the T-rex around for a while and also mess with the Red Witch Empress chorus pedal (You should try this out if you haven't already). I really like the replica for adding just that little extra to distorted solos. I love it with echoes=12:00, level=to taste, repeats=9:30, tempo = 10:30 ish. Perfect for those slow dripping with gain leads!!

I think so... but I use a wireless with a permenantly connected cable to the AFX... that's the only reason I said 3 cables.

Will you run your T Rex/RW in the loop of the V? Not sure how that'll sound on Chan 2 & 3 if you run it to the Input!?!?!? I really like the idea of a couple basic pedals ( esp like the BB or the T Rex...) but I hate running long cables... sounds like you already do though ... I just want to eventually run 1 MIDI cable to the pedalboard...period. I use at least 13 or 14 different effects in a night so a few basic pedals 'ain't' in my future unfortunately.

Let me know if you sell your amp gizmo please!!!

The chorus sounds good in the front of the amp with all three channels but the delay does not sound good in front of channels 2 and 3 since the repeats go through the gain stages and leave behind a trebly mess of mud :)

I went through this phase where I thought effects were going to be a very important part of my sound (especially for Pink Floyd covers) and have used many many effects processors and pedals over the years. As I grew older, I realized that I need only to use delay, chorus, and reverb to sound very good. I'm really buying into the philosophy that less is more and let my fingers do the talking more than effects these days. With the Mark V cleans I realized today that the chorus is actually redundant since the clean channel is so good, and my RW chorus (It is a great pedal. Not taking anything away from it. I just don't see myself using it too much) will be going back to the shop soon. I use delays for stuff like another brick in the wall, and also to sweeten up my leads. I think I will be happy with just the BB and T-Rex now. The reverb on the Mark V is top notch so I don't need a Lexicon or something like that.

As to your question regarding long cables, I was worried about it too but now that I've made my decision to not use the chorus, the T-rex delay pedal will be velcroed on top of the Mark 5 and will use 2 1ft cables to connect to the effects loop. I can turn it on and off using the FX button on the Mark V footswitch when I need it, and I can adjust the delay by hand real quick in between songs. So my long cables will be the one from the guitar to the BB pedal if I'm using it on stage, BB to amp, and the footswitch cable plus power connector for the BB. It's going to be a real simple setup and time will tell if I can or cannot live with this simplicity.

I still haven't made a hard decision on the Mini Amp Gizmo but I'm definitely leaning towards selling it! We can PM about it if you'd like. Since you're using wireless just running one MIDI cable should be fine for your purposes. The Mini Amp Gizmo can sit on the amp/rack etc. It should be a good setup. What kind of music do you play?

I like your idea of the Rex on the amp... keeps cables to minimum! And since you're gonna control it with the V's pedal it sounds perfect! You won't lose anything tonewise in your guitar > BB. Amp setup imho.

And I agree 'with less can be more' when it comes to effects... but... I play cover stuff with a couple originals.. everything from Merle Haggard to Brad Paisley to SRV to Ozzy... I use Comp, Drive Pedals, a couple delays, chorus, rotovibe, ParaEQ, Phazer... but only to enhance... don't use them real dominant.

Just PM or email me if you decide on the Gizmo..
