I have a 1987 Redstripe Mark lll (no graphic eq.) Simulclass and I'm curious
to find out more info about the various R2 channel volume/master volume
or tone type mods to make the Rythm2 channel more flexable/useable when using channel switching. I used to have a Mark lV, and I know I can't expect
that flexability from the Mark lll, but every little bit will help! Any other Ideas
about getting the most from my Mark lll will be greatly appreciated! I mostly
use it in Class A mode with a Celestion C-90 and a little delay/room reverb in
the FX loop, a Strat with a Hot Rails in the bridge (series/split/parallel sw.)
I just found this site, totally cool...thanks,Beemer...

Hi Beemer,

Welcome to the forum! :)

Do a search in the archives as the R2 vol pot mod is pretty well documented, and is super easy to do.

Also, do a search for preamp tubes for the MKIII, and you'll find some opinions there, as well. FWIW, I found the R2 marginally useful when I first got my Greenstripe. But with the various tube swaps I've made, I've really grown to like the R2's voice.

Here are the three 'main' threads I found on the subject (though I'm sure there are more!). I intend on doing this mod myself in the near future so I'll report back once completed.

One question, from the write-up it states 'clip the resistor at R130' but in the pictures it's still there; so do you totally 'remove' it, clip off one end and move it out of the way or does it stay in place (just disconnected on one end)? You solder wire to one end of the R130 position and the other wire to the other side of R130 but for 'ease of access' most folks use one side of R131 since there's usually not enough room to work with at the R130 position. That about sum it up?

Thanks!

That sounds right from what I can remember. The pot simply takes the resistor out of the circuit and replaces it with a potentiometer.
