I've been using my studio preamp in the front end of my Mark llB with great results. I use line level out the send out of the preamp into the input of the llB, not into the effects return of the llB. I've tried both ways and I basically have a 4 channel cream machine, so swweeet! I also own a Mark lll black dot 105 head that throws flames of metal and a mark lV wide body EV combo so getting tone out of those was easy but the llB was tricky until I tried the preamp through the return, that sounded great so I decided to go through the input on the front of the llB because I've read you can play through the mesa rack amps with just your guitar and that sounds good and I use the preamp normally through my 1972 Marshall super lead. Sustain for days, bite, bite, bite, Hendrix would **** his brains if he had this set-up, the controllable feedback is holier than swiss cheese, too bad the word gainiac is already taken. 4 channels between the 2, 2 separate reverbs, 2 GEQ's and I'm in tweeker heaven. It's impossible to get a bad tone, I get my overall sound with the llB and simple boost/tone change with the preamp, the gain and attack are instant and uncompressed, shot out of a EV 12L cannon, I'll have the tone go to 11 on a scale of 1-10 by itself in the middle of a lead, you'd know this feeling if it's happened to you. Does anyone else use a studio preamp in front of a Mark amp?
