Hello everybody,

I have recently bought an EV TL-806 replica from Tube Town
http://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/product_info.php/info/p3340_TTC-112-806---EVM-12L-8-Ohm.html

As soon as I received it I connected it to my MkIV A combo just to realize that this cab is the perfect companion
for my amp. While the cab itself sounds like a 4x12 in a smaller size (which I don't like), the combination of this cab
and the open cab of the amp sounds somewhat "complete" to my ears. The deep basses of the small Thiele cab and
the airy and spread highs of the combo marry happily :)

On top of happiness, I knew I had to put a mic in front of the cab and try to record what I heard. This is what i got.

(for those who have problems downloading the file - I know there will be a few - please try to copy the link, open a new
tab/window, paste the address in the address bar and press enter. It usually works)

I used an SM57 in the middle of the amp speaker, on the edge of the dome, and a Sennheiser e906 in front of the thiele
port on the extension cab. Used a Tom Anderson Drop Top through all the clip. Rhy2 for the rhythms, Lead for the leads
(LOL, just that easy).

Hope to hear what you think about these tones.

thanx for that clip!
i own two EVM12L speakers, hooked up i a 2x12 cabinet. just thinking about ordering those 1x12 thiele cabs from TT, to make it sound better.
i allways thought it´s the cab what makes it sound so different, but now i know - it´s the EVM speaker.
sorry, but this i not my cup of tea. i´m more a V30 guy.

but your file is cool, it brings out the EVM sound very well. nice playing as well!

Thank you for your comment, glad you liked it.

I did the opposite as you, after years of playing only V30s I stumbled into an EVM and realised how much I was missing of my amp's tone. It felt as if a blanket was removed from the amp, as if its true sound was finally free. I simply couldn't think of a Mark without an EVM now :)

That, I think, is the demonstration that one should never blindly believe what he reads on the web, but check first hand instead :)

Nice tone dude

I tried the thiele with my express 5:50 and it expanded the tone into something huge, very big sounding. But now I have a mark IV A version combo and have been thinking about a 1x12 to put under it. I also have a 4x12 recto cab that I haven't tried with the combo but I find it a little to big to lug around.

Mine is a IV A combo too. I think the 1x12 Thiele with EV12 really complements the sound of this amp.
