Considering a Mark IV purchase.

What are the lowest approximate output (Simulcalss, Tweed, Triode) wattages I can expect with four 5881's or four 6v6's in a mark 4.

How about in Class A?

Can I run two 6V6s in Class A? What would th wattage be?

Also, Can I mix tubes? Like 5881 in the outside, 6v6 in the inside?

6v6/EL34?

6v6/6L6

I'm looking to get nice chimey cleans and tube saturation distortion as much a possible at reasonable rehearsal volumes.

Thanks for any assistance

Dan

5881s will work in Class A setting as well as SimulClass.

I am fairly certain that 6v6 will only work with Tweed Power and SimulClass mode. Any other settings will burn up the tubes.

I ran 5881s for years in my Mark IV and I like them a lot. I just switched back to 6L6s and it sounds good but does have a little more punch in all settings. I don't look at that as bad. Just different shades of good tone to me. Pretty sure my next power tube switch will be back to 5881s though.

BTW I run it in Class A mode almost all the time.
