Any know how to properly set up their Mark IV with a Gmajor to control the channel switching?
I want to get able to control all the changes, clean, rhythm, lead, lead eq & eq.

Thanks, Jeff

You can't control all of the functions on the Mark IV with the G major as it only has 2 switching relays on it. The best thing to make it all work would be a GCX or the Amp Gizmo.

or one of these, but I'm probably biased ;)

When I had a g system I had also a stiletto. I only used one relay to switch between the two channels. So if the g major has two relays it should be able to switch between four channels. Or am I thinking this the wrong way ?

With the switching relays on the gmajor, you would only be able to control 2 functions, I also used my g amjor on my stiletto. That gave me the ability to switch channels and turn the solo boost on/off. For the MIV, you could only access a channel switch and another function with it. I got rid of my g major before I got my MIV, but I'm pretty sure that it would not give you the full ability to use the external switching jacks to the full potential as it only has the 2 relays and you have more switching jacks on the back than that.

The G-System relays are stereo (TRS) jacks to with the two jacks you can switch four functions. The G-Major might not be TRS relays, check the manual, if they are TRS you will be able to control two functions per relay (2 relays, 4 functions). Just get the Y-splitter cables and you can go from there.

g-major has one TRS jack for 2 relays

In the manual for the g major 2 they talk about three channel amps, but when looking at the back of the gm2 I can only see one output for a switching cable.

Since it would use a TRS type jack-plug, theoretically you could use it to switch 3 channels. If the first one switches between channels 1 & 2 and using the other end to switch to the third channel.

(T)tip (R)ring (S)sleeve type jack. Basically it's a stereo type plug. Pretty common plug to find, just ask for it at your local music shop. The one to use on a G major would be a Y type cable. The end that plugs into the back of the G major is the TRS plug, while the other ends provide the Ring and Sleeve connections which allow the relay switching functions of the g major. The switching jacks on the back of the mark IV would use the TRS type cables, but again with the G major you would not be able to fully utilize all of the jacks as it only has the 2 relays in the G major, so you would have to comprimise and settle with not being able to use all of them but still have some control over it such as channel switching. however, if you set up the G major with patches, you could have a clean patch with say choruse and reverb, etc while using the other patches to switch to R2 or the lead channel with your effects, but you would not be able to switch on the EQ or loop with it. You could just set the switches on back of the amp though to automatically be assigned to the channels when they switch. does that make sense?

Yup I get it now :D And since the gm2 has eq in itself the eq on the amp could be auto assigned to one channel and I could just use the eq on the gm2 for the rest of them.

Thanks

Geiri

Absolutley you could do that, would probably give you some pretty cool sounds. however, keep in mind that the EQ on the G major is a parametric type and not graphic like what is on the Mark IV. going to give you a bit different sound and it's a little more complex to work with. it would probably enhance the built in GEQ, similar to those early Metallica albums type sounds. If you really like the GEQ on the amp, just leave it assigned to being on all the time across the channels, that's how I set mine up. I don't have a G amjor with that setup though, but used it with a recto and stilletto heads.

Hello Mesa people,

I have just searched about this argument and read this old topic.
So if i would manage all the MKIV 6 channels should I buy a midi switcher between MK IV and G-major?

I suppose that even with G-major 2 the same situation is.

thank you very much
