I have a newer Mark IV combo with custom maple cabinet. My sound man told me that my sound from my #2 channel has a brown sound to it. I use this to play most of my rock chords with then #3 if I do play some lead. Can anyone tell me what he means when he's telling me a brown sound. Do I need different tubes? For many of years I played the Marshall JCM 800 half stack but for the past 6 years only Mesa.
Thanks!
Jim

The Brown sound is referred to the sound that Eddie Van Halen got on his first few albums. He used a variac to lower the voltage hitting his amp enabling him to crank it more.
