Hey guys...
BACK IN THE DAY...( at Berklee )...i bought a Mark III Simulclass head...and when The Cars broke up I bought a 4x12 cab from Elliot Easton. I TOTALLY can get that sound...but it get's very raspy at times or even 'Ratty". I'm wondering what new speakers i can try...although I don't wanna touch anything that made music history...but I thought I could experiment w/ different speakers so that i could get a smoother sound...( I probably blew these speakers apart in the late 80's / 90's......and if i didn't..well..I'm sure Elliot beat me to it..)
Any Ideas? I haven't changed the tubes since 1989 and I wonder if that could be the problem. I've been playing my ToneKing a lot. I really like the Bogner's and Diezal's sound.
So i'm just wonderin.

Yes deffinatly try some new power tubes before going too drastic. Might have a tech check it out and consider a "cap job"
as a possibility to tighten the amp back up. The preamp tubes from those days are often as good as or better than many of the new 12AX7's available now. Still won't hurt to have the sockets, pots, and jacks cleaned.
