Hey,
I was out at the Chicago Music Exchange, where they have tons of vintage (overpriced) gear. They have a few Boogie amps, that might sit and collect dust for a while. I got to hear the purple stripe combo they had. It looked like it had some type of 6L6's inner, and some short and fat tubes outer sockets... 6CA7's? The guy was playing a Les Paul.
This was the first Mark III I've head up close, and it sounded great. He was just dialing a tone and playing, so no controls were really shared, but the clean was shimmering, Rhy 2 sounded great for classic rock, almost like Marshall crunch, and the lead was the classic Boogie lead. It did seem like it could use some love from Mike B, but a seriously awesome amp, especially for under a grand!
I guess I'm saying what everybody already knows, but it was cool to see/hear it in a store.
