I've owned both black dot and blue stripe Mark IIIs (both with EQ, the black dot was an HRG, the blue stripe, DRGX).

I FAR preferred the blue stripe. When I am back in the market for another Mark III it's a blue stripe long head that I'll be looking for.

It was WAY more aggressive and had more gain than the black dot, and just generally sounded better across the board. Odd how it could have more gain and be more aggressive and yet it had a smoother feel to it, too.

Currently have 2 Red Stripes. Have owned a green & blue 60 watt.
The blue 60 watt was really warm sounding in a good way.
My green was raw and more aggressive than my red stripes. The green stripe could
be tamed with the GEQ easily.. Having 2 red stripes they are my fave of the Mark III's.
The lead channel is easier to dial in for me than the other stripes I've owned.
I've yet to hear any Mark III that I didn't like. Differences are subtle.
I think the Mark III series is the most underrated amp Mesa ever produced.
A friend had Mark II C+ years ago and it was amazing. I'm now used to having
Mark III's and my red stripes can deliver any tone I'm looking for. Prices have
gone up the past couple years.

Best sounding ones that heard were Red Stripe models. A 75/15 Simul and a Simulclass Coliseum model.
