Turns out out I have a IIA not a IIB. Anyone know if the effect level mod can be done to the A also. Something like using the preamp out and slave jacks (which I'll never use), and losing the reverb pot for the level?

Also, can they fix the famous popping channel switching (which nearly killed the squirrel living in my attic)?

i sort of misunderstood the title of this thread until i read the full post.

it sparked a funny thought.

i should prank call boogie and ask mike b if he can "return my fully loaded, stock mark IIC+, to mark IIb specs"

I don't see why this mod couldn't be done to a MkIIA. It can be done to a MkI, like this. :D

Hey Droogie,

What Lead settings do you run on your Mark IIA typically? Do you use the Gain boost?

Thanks,

Fricken loud isn't she.

Cool. Mod looks very possible. Thanks for the photo.

Settings for lead with a 335 are either:
Vol 1 6 Treb 6 pulled Bass 1 Mid 5-8 Mstr1 @1 Ld Drv 6 Ld Mstr 1
Used to get a thick and dark lead (think early John Scofield). The thing I love about this amp is that you can have a dark sound but it's still articulate, not muddy. Really great for - gasp!- "jazz".
-or-
Vol 1 and Ld Drv maxed with treble boosted and mid cut to get really saturated, which I think is the best of the distorted sounds.

It is a bit rough in some ways compared to my Mark III red stripe, but the cleans and break up of the II are unbelievable. Oh, and loud. Really really loud.

I run my settings very similar and as you said the Mark II lead is much rougher than the Mark III. The gain boost is over the top and very dark, I need to play with that more. I also find the clean channel on the IIA amazing. The head room is limitless and crisp, as good a clean Fender sound as I've ever heard. That said, I prefer my III Blue overall but since I have both I use the R1 of the IIA for cleans and the R2 and Lead of the III. The R2 on the my Blue in Class A is just awesome. A full chunky slightly broken up sonic wonderland. I've been able to dial up some of my favorite rock n roll sounds on that channel. Last night I was rockin to Ron Woods "I Can Feel The Fire" and it sounded just like the live version (because of the mistakes) in which he uses that exact amp. Mind you it was all at indoor levels another benefit of the Mark III they sound so good at low volume. The IIA is less well behaved at low levels, it hasn't learned to play low, it just likes to scream.

I'm thankful to own both, they are a blast to play.

Do you find that R1 of the III has a "V" built in to the tone stack. I just got mine recently and haven't been able to dial in that full midrange sound (which I also got from a IV). I get high and low, and turning up the mid doesn't do the trick either. Although the II and III have the same lineage, they seem very different to me. Since you use the II for clean I suspect I might not be crazy afterall.

I like the R1 on my III although not as open as the IIA its still very nice. I never thought of it as having a scooped tone?
