Hi, all. I'm new to actually having an account on here; I've read it for a while though.

I have a Mark ii that I bought from a former Mesa employee in 1992. He was in Louisville, Kentucky selling some of the amps he'd collected while working at Mesa and he sold me this Mark ii for 250.00. It was the best day of my music life. I had no idea what I was getting, I just knew it was tiny, sounded huge and sounded better than any Marshall I had used.

There were a series of mods done on this amp. 1 mod happened in 1997 when the amp suddenly stopped working. I sent it back to Mesa for repairs and (if memory serves correctly) they called a guy out of retirement to work on it. (that might be inaccurate but I remember them giving me a reason for the delay on returning it). Anyway, when they worked on it, they removed the "fetron" and replaced it with a tube as the original design desired (as I have read). They said that they were able to do this now because of the advances in circuitry or some such thing.

What's interesting and the thing I have a question about is the effects loop. The original marking on the loop have been blacked out and a label maker printed in its place. I'll show you a photo of it. I'm not sure if it was altered to be post gain or not. I'm curious how I would figure this out. I know it's a silly question but I'm a bit of a block head when it comes to this stuff.

You have a Mark II-A that was produced before May 20, 1980. On that date, the Fetron was discontinued.

I think you have the loop mod. I have seen that mod on many Mark II-B but never on a II-A.

The original label says something like: PRE AMP OUT/PWR AMP IN. It was a patch point between the pre and the power amps.
Can you post more pictures? What manufacturing date is written in Sharpie on the chassis?

Hi, Daniel,

Thanks for your reply. Here are some photos. I did some searching and found the date of mfg: 12/19/79. It's crazy to me sometimes to think that the world's most versatile amp, that can go from the most metal to a twin reverb sound was made in 1979!
