Please excuse my ignorance, but I just got a mark v and played with it for a few minutes tonight. On channel 2, going from the crunch mode to mark I, is a worlds difference. The mark I mode sounds like its under water, full of saturation and the volume is significantly less than the crunch option. Is that the way it should be/sound?

The reason I ask is because the reverb doesnt work on the head and Im wondering if its related??

Well if you have a good sound on crunch and you switch to Mark I, it will sound TOTALLY different and unusable. Very bass heavy and yes, the gain on Mark I is quite high.

From memory, here it what I suggest:

Turn off graphic or preset EQ. Just start with channel EQ.

Mark I Thick switch to OFF

Start with gain low, maybe at 9:00

Turn Bass all the way off.

Turn Treble up quite high, maybe full if needed. The gain will increase as you up the treble.

Still a dark-ish sound? Should be.

Kick in the graphic EQ. Start with it flat.

Boost the highs and if needed, cut the lows.

I usually would cut the two lowest faders a little, the cut the 750 fader a little more, then boost the two highest the most.

Good luck.

Pretty much. On the Mk I mode try turning the treble and presence up to around 3:00-4:00, the bass down to zero and the gain somewhere around 9:00 (adjust to taste). It should sound more normal that way (by normal I mean fat 70s rock tones).
