Got an email yesterday with a link to this article; I was hoping that it would be insightful, but apparently these cats didn't take the time to flip the switch, or tweak any knobs... How can you not discuss or describe the plethora of tones that these early amps are capable of; especially the 1x15 combos which, IMHO are in a class unto themselves.

^^^^^ My thoughts exactly. I was excited to see that article, only to be mostly let down by lack of useful/interesting information.

1) You have vintage Mk I's and Mk II's in 12" and 15" combos; how do they sound? Can you describe the tones?
2) History fact: The Mk II is the FIRST channel switching amp.
3) While yes, Carlos Santana's name is synonymous with Boogie, wouldn't it be better to show a period correct Yamaha SBG, instead of a $7500.00 PRS prototype?

There were a couple of other little things... lol.

But, if you're gonna write an article about an amp, and have that amp in your possession, then damn it, you need to talk about the amp, not what it's current market value is. Compare it to a modern boutique amp; something worthy of the Mark I & II heritage.

"Don't mess with a Boogie Man..."

I agree it is a poorly written article.
Probably they should have titled it: The tale of the two Smiths.

Carlos was playing Gibson Les Pauls in the first half of the 70's (Boogie Snakeskin and Boogie Mark I); he switched to Yamahas in 1975 or so.

I think a better title would have been, Two Amps We Can't Tell You A Damn Thing About (Because We're Too Dense)

Perhaps us elitist Mk II devotees (Not to include the C+ people... LOL) need to collaborate on an article, and submit it to Premier Guitar, as well as other online guitar magazines... C'mon guys, who's game??

I'm game, I own a 1977 MK1 Black Tolex 60 watt with reverb and stock eminence Alnico speaker.
The previous owner had it modded (3 button footswitch) so he could switch between inputs and reverb as you can see from pics.
I love the MK 1's and 11's they are extraordinary amps and will knock a wall down from 20 paces...
