If anyone is from NYC or has visited, you know of Manny's on 48th street. The last time I was there was about 2 years ago to show my kids. Went there this weekend and it's gone! Heard it closed about a year or 2 ago. It's now a Sam Ash. Growing up in the Bronx as a kid I used to take the train to go there some Saturday mornings during the 70's and 80's. It was like magic. You never knew if you'd see someone famous. They had the walls completely covered from top to bottom with signed photos from Hendrix, Clapton, Jeff Beck, Zep, Beatles, Stones,... EVERYONE shopped there. Any musician playing in NYC bought their stuff there. 48th street had about a half dozen of music stores right there next to each other, and in warmer weather, each store had their doors opened and you'd hear music from everywhere. As a kid I thought it was so cool shopping there (there really wasn't any place better for music stuff) and knowing that Hendrix was at the same check out counter at some point buying his stuff. They even had his signed receipts on the wall from his purchases.

Now it is all gone and soon Sam Ash too I hear. I think Rockefella Center owns the property and will be building on it soon.

Manny's over the years couldn't complete with prices like many others with the on-line stores. I do buy some things on line but could never buy a guitar that way. There was nothing like it as a kid sitting in that store an trying stuff out.

That place will be missed, all that history gone....

When I first realized that the store was gone, I immediately thought of that line from Wish You Were Here, "did they trade your heroes for ghosts.." It was like someone erased part of my childhood. It wasn't just rock musicians who shopped there, Sinatra, Dean Martin, all the jazz and blues greats from the 50's and 40's. Even past US presidents. If you love and just respect music, it should bother you. I know nothing lasts forever, but this represented history. There are VERY FEW music stores like this in the whole country where all the greats would shop there if they were in the area.

Sorry, it just makes me sick and really has upset me.

Manny's music was OWNED by Sam Ash according to a reliable source I know, so it makes perfect sense that it was turned into one.

I played my first 5150 in that store, and realized that I needed to own one, so I credit it being an important aid in my tonal journey

Manny's sold out to Sam Ash about 10- 12 years ago. However, before that they were their own store.
