Im thinking where you sit in relation to you speakers matters just as much, I know when i practice with the 4x12 if i move my head from the middle of the two speakers out the right the sound changes alot the further i go. at some angles it too much treble and hurts the ears.. and sometimes there is the sweetspot that i can crank and have no issues :)

I personally found that the 2X12s choked the openness and low end of the Mark V head. A 4X12 would help heaps...

+1 on that. I have a slant 4x12 and it definitely sounds warmer a bit off axis than directly in front (too "ice picky"). I'd add some beam blockers (or =) if I wasn't too lazy to open it up and install 'em!

I spent more time tweeking my rectos than my mark V. I found my voice and have been happy ever since. Same goes for my Triaxis preamps. I set those suckers up and *BANG* done. Set it and forget it is the best policy...except when you have roadies, but that's an entirely separate topic.

If ya don't like tweaking I suggest trying the ElectraDyne. It's almost impossible to get a BAD sound out of that amp and there are only 6 knobs!
