I have the ability to pick up either of these very soon but I have to choose which one I want to get. The Mark II is a 1979 1-12 Combo, no EQ, no reverb. It is in pretty good shape for being almost 30 years old. The second amp is a newer Mesa Boogie Maverick 2-12 Combo in really good shape (almost mint)

I play everything from hard rock, metal, jazz, blues. I use both Stratocasters and LP type guitars. I also have a huge pedal collection.

What do you guys think of these two amps and which would you choose, and why?

This is my first post here, I heard this was the place to get Boogie info :D

I would go for the Maverick, it has plenty of gain and just a great voicing. I have a wide range of styles I go through, and the Mav holds up to all of them. If the Mark II had the GEQ and Reverb, I'd say it's a toss up, but without it, the Maverick is just more versatile (IMO).

Thanks for the response! So which of the two has the most gain? I will use the amp mostly for single line lead work vs. lots of chords.

The Maverick probably has a little more gain on tap than the II. The seperate controls on the Maverick's channels is also a big plus to me.
