The title says it all.
Not exactly - are you looking for an octave up effect, like Hendrix style? Or, an octave below effect, like Warren Haynes uses?

For octave up, I use a HomeBrew Electronics UFO. It's a great stand alone fuzz, and the octave up tracks perfectly.

Hmmm...

I'm pretty octave dumb (never really used one much), does Iommi use octave up, down, or both?

I think Iommi just tunes down to C sharp, so I don't know what kind of octave effect he uses.

If you're looking for the high-pitch, ring modulation kind of effect, you want octave up. Songs like Jimi Hendrix' "Foxy Lady" and "Purple Haze" come to mind.

From what I've found, he's using a Boss OC-2, which is 1 & 2 octaves down, or he'll use a DOD of some sort (Octoplus I believe, but can't confirm) which is also an octave down device.

Okey-dokey, that's not octave up, obviously! Ignore me...

If you want to try this effect on the cheap, try a Danelectro Chili Dog. You shouldn't have to pay more than $30. I used one for a few years, and it sounded pretty good for the price. I used it with the normal sound full, octave below on three quarters, and the second octave below on one quarter. I would use it for Gov't Mule's "Larger Than Life" and Cheap Trick's "California Man" in the solo. I retired mine after I made a patch for these sounds on my G-Major.

It sounded particularly wicked if you put a compressor in front of it and an overdrive after it. You could score the music for a horror movie!

back from the grave...has any more came up since 2005?

I am looking into the ehx POG or Micro POG... any feedback on these?...Basically, I am looking to produce a nice 12 string sound...Thanks for your time

I use an old Arion octave that is similar to the Boss unit.

You can see it on the board, its a plastic piece of crap but it gets a real warm sound. It has a direct signal control, and 2 octaves down with a level control for each. I think it sounds best for soloing up around the 12 position. If you could find one someone would probably give it too you cause its not that sought after but to me has a real cool tone. It will not track real fast passages, works best for slower runs.

I have the EBS octabass (originally intended for bass) which I put in front of my rect-o-verb. It tracks very well and sounds great. Try and find one, you won't be disappointed!

Foxrox Octron is the best octave pedal I've played. Has separate octave up and octave down controls as well as trim pots for them for even more adjustment and has a mix knob so you can dial in how much effect. Works also as a fuzz on a clean channel or on a dirty channel to create ridiculous sustain and harmonics in addition to the octave effect.

I use it on my dirty channel all the time and I LOVE this pedal. It's one of the only instant gratification and most importantly musical pedals I've tried. It also tracks really well on the low notes unlike a lot of octave pedals.
