ok, maybe I'm the only one that didn't know this, but, if you want more gain from either lonestar channel, make sure the effects loop is engaged and crank the masters. I think what happens is that you end up overdriving the tube that buffers the effect loops, effectively adding an extra overdrive stage.
 
You can also try putting a compressor in the loop when you're using channel 2 - the power amp distortion is lovely, and more organic as not always at a fixed level as with diming the master.

I guess being able to do it would depend on your effects ability to take a hotter signal.
