I've owned both versions at the same time...and can say that w/o a doubt that at low to moderate volumes, the 1x12 sounds better. When opened up, however (and that was often too loud), the 2x12 won out in fullness and just a better sound.

I can vouch for them being built tough. Almost 4 yeras ago, at the first gig I used my Lonestar at, it got put thru a good test. As we were loading in I had the amp, in the road case, sitting on the tailgate of the truck while unloading other gear. I turned away from the truck to set some guitar cases down and heard the amp fall off the tailgate to the concrete, about 4 feet, landing head down. I thought the worst but it fired right up and has never shown any signs of a problem.
