I just got a new Les Paul Standard (2008 model) and decided to see how it sounded thru the Mark V with a shure 57.

I put a little video together of one of my warm up routines that I usually do before tracking my own stuff. Its just a simple ambient track that you can get off youtube that lets me limber/warm up.

Anyways all I have is a DD3 Boss in the effects loop and the Wah direct in going to sonar. I try to keep my chain pretty simple.

I keep everything uneq'd so you can get a sense of how the 57 does the job on the Mark V just a little compression on the master and a tiny bit of inpulse reverb. I also cycle through various pickup configurations to try to get a whole spectrum of the guitar.

The Les Paul is quite a different animal than my PRS CE22. The Pauls got lots of mid range in there...I'm just starting to figure out how to dial it in.

Any feedback or micing tips for the les paul and Mark V would greatly be appreciated

Cheers

nice tone and playing, enjoyed listening to the piece, just the right amount of gain then the wah comes and kick up the gain a notch....! Cool!!

Hey thanks for the kind words...and the watch:)

The Les and the Mark V are such a great pairing for the bluesy stuff. First part of the vid is on channel 1 tweed with the neck pickup. The second and third parts are iv channel with moderate gain (10:30 ish) and both neck and bridge pickup with Vol on neck at 5 and bridge full, tones on both pickups at the half way mark.

Still a little to mid rangy for me but just a bit. Gonna try Mark 1 for the leads next time...and see if that phat tone is what i'm looking for.

Cheers and thanks again

Oh you'll be surprised how that mid range fits within a context of a band, try videotaping your whole band and listen to the guitar sit very nicely in the mix! I play with a keyboard player, am only the guitarist in the band, and that mid range sound keeps the guitar sound separated from the mid low frequencies all shared by bass, keys, and drums!

Nice work.

Try (if you haven't already) Extreme mode. It's got a different curve than Mk4/Mk2. I REALLY like it.

So very true. I can play my Mark at almost half the volume of the other guitarists Rectifier and still be heard clearly. In fact I have to play significantly quieter than him otherwise my guitar dominates in the mix. Of course it doesn't help that he runs a Rectifier with full bass and no mids, but that's a story for another day.

As someone else suggested try the extreme mode, it's fantastic for what you're doing.

that was awesome.

i will be playing LP into M5 soon.

nice phrasing. very relaxing overall. made my day dude. i really liked that backing track.

EL34 or 6L6?

what humbuckers in that LP? burstbucker pro?

Hey thanks for the kind words. It's a combo with stock 6l6 and indeed. Burstbucker pros.

Very nice playing and excellent tone thalweg!

I enjoy similar sounds through my MkV combo while playing thru my Suhr guitars as well, but I don't have your skills.....yet!!

Excellent!! :D

Dude, that was cool!
It's pretty fun to see all the different styles of playing people have here in the forum and what they can do with the MV.
