I would say they are all right in the inner sockets, but they bias up too high in the outer
sockets. A set of GT KT-66 with a 5 rating bias up to about 35mA in the inner and about 70mA
in the outer.

Question:

At 35ma, could I run KT-66's in my 60 watter with no biasing (just the stock config) or would I need to go with a bias mod?

Just curious. (Even though I'm a 6L6 guy at heart, it never hurts to have options...)

Thanks as always, Boogiebabies!

Any ideas how it would sound? I searched around the board and all I could find was this thread, but he ran it in a simul-sat and used a pedal for distortion :-/

Sounds pretty gnarly either way.

How about in a Mark IV? I know they probably won't bias right in the outer sockets, but how about the inner sockets?

Or how about a 60 watt IIC or IIC+. Would kt66 be better for cleans and heavier stuff than =C= ?

Thanks
Scott

KT66 is in the 6L6 family so it's better for cleans (in my experience) than EL34 (although KT77s are ok for a cleanish EL34 tube).

They seem to give pretty good dynamic pick-attack response, although that may be the Vintage Modern 2266 amp design as well...

Very articulate with little compression, excellent touch response and dynamics.
