Hey guys,

So I was wondering if you guys had any hints to help solve a constant hum (not humbucker related) with my dual recto. I haven't played a Mesa in years and can't remember if that is just their nature due to being high gain or if there is another issue. It has somewhat recently replaced MESA tubes in all positions.

Any hints to enlighten me would be great. The amp is an older revision F and so I wonder if it is just part of the amps personality. It isn't really bad or loud, just a low frequency hum.

Thanks!

Ive got a Triple Rev F and i dont get any crazy hum, not much more than the normal stuff. Depends on how close i am to the amp and the angle of my guitar to the amp also. Ive got the Noise gate from my gmajor that takaes care of it pretty much.
Ive tryed all kinds of gates, The Rack G, Boss NS 2 They all kill your sustain depening on your feedback problem, but i bet you could do the ns-2, or a easy way is switching pickups when no playing or even channels go to clean and you can switch back durring breaks.

Honestly, this could be anything -- a bad guitar cable, an inferior guitar cable, bad electricity source, microphonic tube(s), high output guitar pickups, poor shielding in guitar itself, effects, etc.

The following link is to a good website devoted to figuring out tube amp issues. Just click around and you should get some useful information. If you don't want to go through this, schedule an appointement with a Mesa certified tech and it will be covered under the warranty.

Good luck. Diagnosing tube amp problems can be a maddening experience. You have been warned ;)

Get thine amp to a technician for a checkup.

Wow, Deja vu!

Seriously, 17 year old amp and you were not the original owner. Best to rule the amp out and get any faulty components replaced NOW. It will keep the beast running top notch for a long time, except for the usual tube replacements . . .
Tube amps are like high maintenance girlfriends. Sure they are hot, but they require WORK to keep the relationship going!

it could be the preamp or power tubes. It could be the lighting? I do have a alittle hum in mine, but more hiss as far as I can tell. But if you play with your gain pretty high and your volume is high as well. Then chances are you'll get a lot of hum/hiss.
