Today I was working in my office where I keep my ED. The sun hit the amp in such a way where I could see the speaker through the grill. I saw something which I never noticed before. The speaker cutout had a half moon shape on the left of the speaker. This doesn't seem right to me. So I took a photo and I wanted to ask you guys who own one to have a look and let me know if your amp is the same.

If this is indeed a manufacturing issue. I will return it and get one without this issue.

Please let me know.

Thanks

Can someone let me know if their ED looks like the photo I posted?

Thanks!

I can't tell much from the photo. Are you sure it is not just a trick of the light or somthing ? I'd take the grill off and have a look. I don't have a combo, but none of my Mesa gear looks like that behind the grill.

I don't think its a trick of the light. How would I take the grill off?

That is pretty strange. I'll take a look at mine and see if it's the same.

Well it's difficult to see through the grill with a flashlight, but the speaker baffle appears to be cut in an oval shape rather than round. Not sure why, but that's what I see. Maybe it's shape is for increased structure and tone. The amp is quite sturdy and sounds great, right? 8)

Thanks for that post. I guess if you see the baffle cut in an oval then I guess thats what I see on mine too. That makes me feel better. I thought that it was some sort of manufacturing error. I wonder why they do that?

Maybe give Mesa a call if you have some spare time. They've always been super nice to talk to - I'm sure they'll help you find your answer.

I was swapping speakers around in my amps and i had the ED speaker in and out. The cutout looked round to me.

Hey, i just noticed something. I have an Ace combo that i removed the speaker from. The board where the speaker get attached to has a perfect round cut out. But there's another board located in front of that which has a bigger cutout. I never knew they installed 2 boards in these combos. Maybe that's what you're seeing.

That may be what I am seeing, but I will call Mesa anyways and see if I can get an answer right from the source.

Thank

Stand By, I'll post a pic of the inside. I'm assuming the Electra Dyne and Ace combo are constructed in a similiar way as far as cab design is.

Here you go. Notice the 2 boards, 1 in the back where the speaker is mounted and the front board.

Typical. The first board is the baffle that the speaker is mounted to. The second is the grille board that separates the baffle from the grillecloth to avoid vibrations. You're seeing the shadow of the overlap of the two when the sun hits it.
