hey so here's a stupid newbie question. can I purchase some kind of protection/bag for my JMP-1 (does Mesa have something like this for Triaxis?) I know it's supposed to be rack-mounted but, whatever.

I have a Mark IV and a JMP-1 and not looking to go all rack right now.

Also, how do you guys transport all your rack mounted gear? Isn't that too heavy and a pain?

you mean, something like this?? 8)

I think a company named Gator makes soft shell racks, which basically sounds like what you're looking for. They'll have one with just a couple spaces.

134 Bra is roughly 70 Usd, fwiw.

ah, and yes, here's the site's lil text translate:

"Made of wood with nylon cover and soft bag. Sides are aluminum with allen screws mounting. Came with screws and keys. Front and back open."

Keep in mind that the preamp will heat up some in a bag. It really needs to breathe some. There are live 12ax7's in there. There are vents in the unit to try to keep it cool. What a concept...

Even in a 4 space rack with a couple other things sharing the space my JMP-1 tended to heat up the top of the rackbox (it was mounted in the top space). I don't think it will like a bag too much.

No reason to get a rack bag if it's for transporting only, it won't be stable in it unless you screw it to the rack, and that would be a hassle to screw and unscrew for setup and breakdown. I have a 2 space skb rack that I got cheap used ($20 with a preamp, the dude must of been cracked out), and I put my power conditioner and g-major in it, then I don't have to really on whatever club's power strips.
I would really, really, really recommend getting an skb or gator shallow rack and not the rack bag. Those rack bags, while looking good on paper, are very deep, and don't protect well at all. They take up more space than a hard rack.

The only time I had a rack case with rollers, was when I had a 12 space rack filled with power amps, preamps, and processors. No reason to have rollers on a 2-4 space rack. The ones that you looked at on skb's site and mf are good, but I would get a plain old shallow case. I would get a 2 space in your case (preamp, conditioner), unless you want to switch to rack effects, then get a 3 space. If you get a power amp, you'll want a seperate rack case for it (they are heavy!!!), that way you have a shallow rack for your preamps/processors and a deep one for the power amp. I like SKB and Gator cases, as well as Grundorf. Even some of the "cheap" ebay cases are built really well, and some are crap.

These are actually really well built as well.
