Trust your tech, in this case.

If the base has been twisted at all, the leads can come in contact with each other. They're not individually insulated from one another.

There might be the slimmest possibility of it being repairable if the tube is good otherwise.

I had the same thing with a mesa STR 420. the base was loose. It still tested like new, no leaks or anything, and sounded great, but i felt like it was a ticking time bomb. Maybe you could epoxy the base, but is it even worth it.

your 420's were coke bottles? mine are the straight glass. where are you located? I know a shop that had a bunch of loose coke bottle mesa str 420 in chicago. I bought good mesa tubes from him before, for cheap.
