Is this a normal 2:90 behavior?

I bought this used, and never had a 2:90 before
I'm about to call up mesa because my 2:90 works a bit different from what the manual says...

-"When 1/2 drive is activated the 2:90's overall output is reduced by
roughly half and you will hear the volume drop correspondingly."
is reduced way more than half, not loud enough to use it in a band setting

-about the modern mode: "Derived from the
presence shift switches found on our Mark IV amplifier, and the "Red" or Modern Channel of
our Dual Rectifier Solo Head, this sound pushes at the boundaries of today's high gain
crunch."
in my rectifier, when i switch the modern mode you really hear a difference,
in my 2:90 if the pressence at the lowest position you can only hear like 1dB of hi freq boost
if the pressence is past 12 o'clock there is no difference.

-"Modern also provides a little more headroom resulting in a volume increase."
nop. no volume increase.

-"When Modern is used in conjunction with Half Drive there is virtually no volume change and
the benefits of both are incorporated to achieve more gain, more aggression, more
harmonics, more scoop, more attack etc."
there is a big volume drop on mine, and its not scooped

The effects of Half-drive and Modern aren't as dramatic as the Mesa literature suggests, but it is certainly more noticeable and usable than your's - so yes, I do think you have a problem with your 2:90. Half drive is still pretty loud! Modern has a mild boost with a mild frequency shift. Neither is very startling in their effects, but useful nevertheless.

depends, I use an mp-1, boss gt-5, I use to run a pod xt, a rocktron piranha and other preamps, never the triaxis. I activate the voicings vie footswitch or relays(rocktron patchmate)
still the modes should work the same no matter what preamp is used
