Growing up in Seattle during the early 90's, I will always be partial to the grunge bands of that era.

Having said that, there has been really good metal bands coming out in the last few years.

Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage, Devildriver, etc. all are awesome.

So my vote goes to the 80's, 90's and today!!! HA!

+10

The rest of you sound like disgruntled symphony players after a new music festival.
"Man, there are no good modern compositions. All the good ones came out in the 1800s and 1900s." What is it with musicians getting stuck in the past? Just sayin'.

I was stuck in the present in the 90s!

Jerry Cantrell has to be my favorite '90s/grunge guitarist. The rest of it, I can do without. I was getting into guitar in the EVH and Randy Rhoads heyday, so I am partial to that era. Just last week, I listened to mid to late '80s Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Nuno Bettencourt. How much more shredding and theory can a person stand? Something had to give. I will give credit where it's due, but I would rather listen to '70s-era Joe Walsh or Billy Gibbons, these days. Their playing was so unorthodox and innovative, back in the day. 8)

Jeff Beck is the ****. that guy is badass. check out the live at ronnie scott's.

and yes, Cantrell is badass too. sick tones and feel on facelift and most other AIC albums.

I also liked the original FNM guitarist a lot as well (used a Mark III on angel dust?) - Jim Martin.

Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle is amazing as well...

I Mother Earth is pretty damn good from Canada in the 90s.

Jane's Addiction was sick.

90s rocks dude.

oh and don't forget Smashing Pumpkins (esp. Gish), The Prodigy, Tool, RATM, Sepultura, Primus, STP, Bela Fleck, Revolting Cocks, Porno 4 Pyros. or even Phish. need I say more?

90s rocks.

That guy was my HERO when I started playing around summer '93.

I definitely agree that the 90's rocked! I liked Nirvana but I'm not a Cobain worshiper and I think there were a lot better bands than Nirvana. People just remember Nirvana so much better because of Kurt's death.

For me, I spent my highschool years in the 90's and that music holds a special place in my heart. I love stuff like Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, RHCP, Radiohead, Tool, Bush, the first Weezer album, all of that kind of stuff. The other day I made a 90's station on Pandora and it was so funny how many of those songs I just knew every word by heart.

I wouldn't say disgruntled. I'd drink beer and talk music with anyone on this forum, and have. My iPod contains a pretty diverse collection. 4500+ tunes. I think we all have our preferences, and I like the fact that rabies added "stuck right now." It was funny cause I was kinda at that same place. I've been working on a lot of Soundgarden (no wonder Chris Cornell got tired of all of the tunings, EEEBBB what the crap is that?), AIC, and Smashing Pumpkins (yes the Gish era but I liked Siamese Dream too) lately when Rabies posted that.

A friend recently saw Metallica and Lamb of God in Cincy. Not being a fan of Lamb of God but knowing that Mark Morton used Mark IV's he was stoked to hear LOG anyway. He said they had a horrible sound and was very dissappointed.

Completely disagree. I saw them a couple years ago and it was badass. Wall of thunder. I was 100% sober too (water and turkey sandwiches at a metal concert).

I live in Cincinnati. I DIDNT go to that metallica/LOG show because it was at the worst venue in the entire city. US bank arena can make anything sound like ****. Sub par PA system and horrible accouatics. The place is a hockey arena for lords sake. I saw metallica there in 04 and will never go to a show again there. It's very crappy venue. That explains why LOG might sound bad there

I agree with GTS. Honestly I was in HS in the 90s and my nostalgic HS music was soundgarden, AIC, nirvana, mudhoney, tool, pantera, helmet, stuff like that. I was always into metal like maiden priest metallica and such but when I hear blackhole sun I remember those HS days

Being so damn old..... I graduated in 79. The music I came home from school and played all afternoon was Kiss, Nugent, Aerosmith, Rush, and ZZ top was catching my ear. Dire Straits was going against the pop rock tide and playing this cool clean guitar. Tres Hombres was a dirtier, nastier blues. I saw KISS Alive I and Bob Seger opened for them. Who the hell was Bob Seger? Then saw Styx open for ZZ Top. Styx played rock and roll at one time before going radio friendly. Sell outs!! That was a thing to be cool and saw to your friends before we played our 7 or 8 songs at the skating rink!!

It is so cool to be a guitar player now. So many great bands, and classic riffs. I listened to a 7 or 8 year old play RATM Killin in the name of while I was up at the guitar center. Thank God for Ipods and music downloading. It will keep the blood of great rock/metal and whatever other music without labels is out there alive and well. I download to see what I like and then buy CD's. I know downloading is controversial with some professional musicians. It does get people heard. Metallica was on MTV live last night. I was them this year in Atlanta. Gogiera opened, sound sucked so it was hard to appreciate the music, LOG next, sound was a little better, Metallica had good sound and brought the heat. As much as I love Pat Metheney, Alan Holdsworth, Trower, ZZ, and Knopfler, For Whom the Bell Tolls still makes me want to pick up my Skully, plug in the Rec and blast it.... 8)

Long Live Rock!!!!
