If you had 2500 for a good metal/rock amp, not boogie, what?

I have a MKV and Rectifier. Looking for another solid Metal/Rock amp. I like the SLO 100. Have not ruled out another Boogie but there are no new ones I am jonesing for. Have not been a big fan of stock Marshalls. Prefer the modded Marshall vibe from other manufacturers.

What are some other good amps you have used besides a Boogie?

Get an ED, most amazing amp ive ever played. ( and i have owned a whole butt load of amps). If you gotta stay away from mesa, try an orange amp, they have always been on my radar. the rockerverb can get pretty heavy

I would look into a used Uberschall, or XTC 101, (I'm a big Bogner fanboi), or for a little more cash check out Dave Freidman's Marsha, and Naked amp, and David Bray and Mike Fortins Bones amp. If going into the SLO price range check out a Diezel Herbert, and Einstein. Another good amp is a Carrol Ann OD2R and CAE PT100 and OD100.

I've been pretty interested in the Rivera Knuckleheads. I've always heard that Rivera build quality is great and their amps have superb tone. I wish I could find one in person in my area to try.

You could also look into VHT/Fryette too. I love my VHT power amp. Maybe a SigX would be up your alley.

The K120 TRE?? Supposed to be a monster metal amp with good cleans.. I have to find one to try it. They all say that... That is the real challenge. If you get a great metal amp, how do you do on clean mid crunch? Thx for the idea.

Splawn maybe? There are a couple of Diezel VH4's on Ebay for $2800. The new 100 watt Engl Fireball sounds huge also. The Soldano Hot-Rod 50+ is the amp that you should be looking at though. It is a 50 watt 2 channel amp with the identical SLO lead channel. $2400 brand new!

Yeah, forgot about the VHT (Fryette) stuff. Got to play one at local shop and I liked it. It was the 60 watt head. Nice dry tone that would sit in the mix well.

I don't know anyone who's stuck with an Orange long term, but that one thing they do is pretty nice. I heard Early Man playing RV100s live and it was amazing. My drummer was going "I want you to sound like THAT!"

Every time I see somebody playing VHT/Fryette stuff live I'm amazed at the versatility they get.

I think if you're going to have multiple high gain amps you've gotta have a Marshall-flavoured one. So Splawn, or you can find a nice clean JCM800 for $800 and get it hotrodded to your taste for less than that again.

Fuchs overdrive supreme?

not really metal like....but still a nice amp!

Turumbar and TimeSignature....

You guys were spot on with the Rivera Knucklehead Tre.... I had an awesome 2 hours of test time at a very kind music store (Atlanta Discount Music) that stayed open late for me to properly jam an SLO and Knucklehead. The SLO 100 vs. the Knucklehead was like the Uriah Faber Jose Aldo fight coming on tomorrow night.... Two excellent choices, either worthy of a win.

The Knucklehead was used and on consignment sale by a desperate person. They took a low $1000. It was a brutal kidney punch quality of metal and then a very stunning clean bluesy amp. Great idea to check it out. I googled it today and drove an hour across Atlanta rush hour traffic to play it.

TimeSignature - You have to find one of these beasts and get a good proper test drive. It has so much gain that a good mid gain pup sound better than an active for articulation. A good USA Strat and a rendition of Texas Flood will bring tears to your eyes.....

Hey Heritage, glad you finally found one. I havent seen a Tre to try out, but Im very happy with my Knucklehead Reverb. I bought mine used from the GC in West Hollywood for $1000 which I think was a pretty good deal. It was on clearance. In the same room I put it up against a Splawn and a VHT Pittbull (which I owned at the time) playing a PRS custom 22 thru a Marshall 2x12 and this thing easily crushed both of them!!! FWIW, I have never been a fan of the SLO's.

Was not able to find one around here. It was impossible to pass up a recently bought and then brought back Knucklehead for $1000 cash... I will make sure to look for one to play. Thx for the feedback.
