Now that I've had my Tremoverb for 7 days, my old Marshall JCM900 m4500 just doesn't sound so good....before buying the Tremoverb it was my Fender Deluxe Reverb that just couldn't keep up with the Marshall....

What amp would sound good next to my Tremoverb....or to put it another way....Lets say your in a band with two guitar players and one had a Tremoverb....what amp would complement it best.

I'd like to keep my Marshall 4x12 to go with the new 50 or 100w head....it needs to be versatile like my Tremoverb....classic rock to death/speed metal.

I like having two amps and cabs so when my friends come over to play they don't have to haul there amp with them.

So, what used amp ($700-$1000) would you recommend to go with my Tremoverb?

thanks!

+1

The last thing you want is another amp that sounds like a TV. That would be mud-city.

OR

Electradyne. That has a great Marshall/Boogie hybrid tone, plus the great cleans of the Deluxe Reverb with much more headroom. I play my Mini Rec and Dyne together and it's a beautiful thing. Two fantastic tones that don't step on each other at all.

Mark III = Metal. You did say classic rock to metal. The Mark III rules for a different sound than the rectifier or your Marshall. The Mark III is the best, gobs of gain and sweet Mark tone. Eats Marshalls for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mine does anyway and I was a Marshall guy for 30 years. I still own 3 Marshalls and occasionally use them but the Mark III is the best amp ever IMO.

Diezel VH4 if you can ever find a used one or you have $4000 to spare. LOL.

Joking aside, I really have no clue as Ive never run in stereo before.

I'm not wanting to stereo two amps....I'm looking for amps for two set-ups....right now I have two friends who come over at different times....my friend Dave lives 5 hours away and my friend Dino a half hour away...when they come over I don't want them to have to bring there equipment, so, me having two set-ups makes it more convenient.

Today when Dino comes over he'll be playing thru my Marshall JCM900 and my Carvin Ultra VC while I'll be playing thru my Mesa Tremoverb with my PRS Custom 24....the last time he came over we felt the Marshall was lacking the type of sound we wanted....so now I'm looking at replacing the Marshall....or keeping the Marshall and buying another amp.

....maybe the Marshall just needs a tune up....its 11 years old and I've never had it worked on.

+1 on tubes and bias for the Marshall. It will likely sound quite a it different. Even a bias with the existing tubes might make a big difference if they don't have a lot of hours on them.

It does seem like a Mark would be a good choice if that falls through.

Never had the Marshall amp worked on....sounds great too me....but maybe taking it in to get a check up would be a good idea.

....also....a Mesa DC-5 might be another option....read some good things about it....there's one for sale for $650.

....it seems like every Mesa I read about is pretty freakin awesome!

Well now I'm about 95% sure I'm going to get an EVH 5105 III 50 watt head and keep the Marshall for now....a friend of mine has offered to buy one of my Les Paul's....it would really hurt to sell her but to be honest it was more of an investment guitar rather then one I play much....plus I'll have enough money to buy another guitar on top of getting another combo or head....hmmmmmmm....

In your price range, an old used built in the UK DSL100. A great amp all on its own. In a blind tone test, I don't think many could tell a DSL100 with a boost from a 3K booteek amp.

I have a Recto-verb that I love. Dial it up rude and chunky can full of bees tone. It pairs with the DSL in an awesome way.

You can search for James Lugo ampfest. There are amp pairings and votes on best pairings. Recto and Marshall consistently is what people's ears like.

ok....just call me fickle....decided to have Roger at Guitarville retube the Marshall JCM900....took it in last Friday and just got it back....Wow! ....what a difference....6L6GC tubes sound better then the 5881's....Roger told me the tube change will be like buying a brand new amp and he wasn't kidding.

So I won't be getting another amp....the Marshall now sounds just fine and it now has the power to stay up with the Mesa Tremoverb....well kind of.

Instead of buying another 50 or 100 watter I decided to get a little 5 watt amp for the bedroom and family room....after some research I decided on a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 5....found one used at GC for 300....I offered 250....they said 270....sold. and I will go pick it up today.

I considered the TransAtlantic TA-15 but the price was a little steep....however I could see getting a TA-30 some day....

....anyway the Tubemeister 5 will go into either a Mesa Lonestar WB 1x12 Black shadow MC-90 or a Marshall TSLC212 2x12 w/V30 and Heritage Celestion speakers....can't wait to get home from work today to try it out! 8)

Thanks for the votes and comments....my search is over for now.

The Tubemeister 5 didn't do it for me....so took it back for a full refund and will next try a Mesa Boogie TransAtlantic TA-15....going with a used one said to be in excellent shape....paid $600....there were two others cheaper....one for 475 and another for 550....but there condition was not rated and they did not respond with an email sent asking of it's condition....this "one" even comes with a footswitch.
Should arrive by this Friday. 8)
