Hello there, I'm new here...

What about this?
There's been a lot of talk about the V-twin's difference in lead volume versus clean / blues volume. And also the lack of the ability to dial in different settings for the different channels. Which leads me to this:

I really dig the V-twin sounds. But can't find a setting that works for everything. Has anybody of you ever tried to put in extra controlls for the gain / mid / treble / master?

Let's say: replace the gain pot with a concentric double pot. 2 gain settings, one for blues, one for clean. Or one for blues/clean and one for lead.

This would require the V-twin to switch over to the other pot when switching channel... I don't know enough of electronics, but I can see on the schematic that there are already a some switching functions in the V-twin. Is there room for some extra switchings? Can the chip acommodat some more switching functions?

A simpler way would be to install an extra 3PDT stom switch in the middle that switches between two options on the concentric pots. You can dial in 2 presets, a high an a low gain. This would give you a crispy clean / purring blues + crunchy lead in the low gain setting and a warmer clean/singing lead + screaming lead in the high gain setting.
The same thing could be done for the master volume (a solo setting) or the mid ...

Ideally I would like to have concentric pots for everything, and complete controll for lead / clean. But that's a lot of extra switch functions...

Did anybody ever try something likethis before? Or have some information on it? What do you think of the concept?

Maybe I'm just asking to put a rack V-twin into a pedal...
(could you copy the switching functions of the rack version into the pedal?)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
M.

Oh come on... Nobody??

Well...
I just figured out some stuff from the schematic:
It's not so complicated to duplicate the complete tone circuit.
(R12, R22, R25, R16, R30 and some capacitors and resistors in between)
And provided you can find the right concentric potmeters, you just need a 2PDT switch to "loop" it in in stead of the regular tone system.

The gain pot is located before the first gainstage (R3), so that's another 2PDT to switch between 2 gain settings.
Or a 4PDT switch to do both in one go.

But calculating the price...
A double (concentric) potentiometer is about 10 $ each.
That's 60 $, again, provided you can find the right one.
+ 7.5 $ for the dual knob (you need 2 concentric knobs for the potentiometer, one top and one "collar"). I fugure you can re-use the existing one and onlu need the collar knobs.
That's 45 $
A 4PDT switch, something like 25 $
And some other components.
Let's say about 150 $ for the complete thing..
Hm.
Is it worth it?
Maybe it's easier to just buy an extra V-twin in stead...
(or a V-twin rack? in what does the rack version differ from the pedal version? Does anybody know of a schematic for the rack version?)

A cheaper solution is just adding an extra gain and volume controll:
2 potentiometers, a 4PDT and 2 knobs: 60 $

Comments anyone?
