I replaced the JBL K-120 in my SOB with an EVM 12L

I'm kind of amazed... it's warmer, less brittle. I like it, I'm almost tempted to keep the amp.

I'd put the k-120 back in your amp and build a matching Theile box for the EV. I love that combo in my Mesa half back 2 x 12" cab.

whatever you do, keep the K-120 even if you don't like it. The price of this vintage JBL K120 today has a market price of $300!!!

They're not a pleasing distortion drive speakers but for country clean spank, say playing a SF Fender Twin or Super Reverb, these speakers are great. They're even great for PA use.

I reckon the k120 can sound good driven. The key is to use a 'beam blocker' to tame the aluminium voicecoil cover. Altecs with the aluminium dome are the same.
