I need the forums' input/advice...

I already have Maxon AD9Pro Analog Delay and Akai E2 Headrush Delay/Looper, but I feel there is still something

missing in long delays like Gilmorish or U2 style. I use the Maxon AD9Pro for my slapback and the Headrush for

looping; however, the Headrush is not satisfying me in regards to longer delays "maybe I need more time to tweak

it more"...

Is there a Delay that you can recommend me which is decent quality that could compliment these 2 delays of

mine?...

My budget is 400$ to 450$...Thank you

Eventide TimeFactor... does it all plus a bit more... I am very happy with mine!

Check it out here: http://www.eventide.com/AudioDivision/Products/StompBoxes/TimeFactor.aspx

Well for the Edge or Gilmour type delays (well 1 of his delay types) you will need a digital delay for the longer length. Analog delays can only go about 600 MS, and the average one is about 400Ms, so that leaves you with digital.

I myself went with the Boss DD-20. Its not perfect but I like it a lot and I only use it for times when I need a longer delay time than any of my 3 analogs can give.

If I was in the market for another one though, I would go with one of the Keeley modded Boss DD-3's. A souped up digital delay that is reworked to get it close to audiophile specs. Analogman has his version of them too. I have not tried any of the Analogman delay mods, but I like Keeley's other mods better as a rule, so I would go with his. But if you generally like Analogman's mods better, maybe give his version a go. Horses for courses, and all that...

I've also heard good things about the T. Rex digital delays (never tried one myself, but friends who I trust have, for what its worth).

Keep in mid as well, especially the Edge type delays, are "scattered" delays; meaning he has 2 or even 3 delays, meticulously set at different times, split/feeding into each other. Well that's how I managed to get some Joshua Tree type sounds anyways. I cannot state for fact that's what the Edge does...

i think you're right about this. those are panned delays (one panned L and the other R in the stereo field). you can set each side for a different time. and of course, you can do the same with a mono set-up too (but imho this works best with stereo separation).

if you want anything Edge-like you'll need 2 delays with modulation. He'll typically run 2 delays (and a 3rd but only at an inaudible 5-20ms). A typical setting for him might be one at 420ms, and one at 290ms (~70% of the long delay) with various repeats and mix between the two. So, if you have 2 delays now you can get there if you set the delays properly. Add modulation and you hit the next level of great sound, add a compressor and you'll be like "holy crap", that sounds like the Edge. This website really gets into his use of delays.(http://www.amnesta.net/edge_delay/)

I used to run a Boss gigadelay and a Line6 DL4 (both with modulation) side by side. I sold them both for an Eventide Timefactor because you can run 2 delays simultaneously off the same box for $400. You could sell your 2 delays and buy 1 Eventide, and have a variety of delay modes and voices available via presets.

I personally use the Ibanez AD202 analog delay. Its the big brother to the Ibanez AD9 and features modulations and a few ither trick such as doubling and flanger/chorus although the delay is best.

You can open it up and tweak the delay length plenty prolly around to 600-800 ms. I love it sound and it does the trick for any delay I want.
