I miss my Mesa's :(

I sold my Tremoverb for a Laney because I needed the money and I wanted to move to a more british tone. But I miss the reliabilty, solidness, and pure tone they deliver. I really want to start saving up for a Mesa again, maybe a Lonestar or Stiletto? Something less modern than the Mark or Rectifier series. I'm pretty positive now that I want to stick to Mesa from now on. I just feel at home when I own one.

I used to own a 50 watt pro tube back in the day. I freaking hated it!Probably why they are giving those amps away on ebay.

But I have heard great things about some of there other stuff.

I got a VC50. It's alright, but still a little harsh and not smooth enough for me. When I sold my Mesa's aiming to get a british sound, I was really after that smooth hot rodded plexi sound. And since I know that Mesa's are thick sounding amps, the Stiletto or Lonestar would probably be closer to what I'm looking for. Or maybe I should just try a Marshall or Splawn? I'm really after a Andy Timmons kind of sound, like the one he has on Resolution.

I generally don't like leaving stuff around that goes unused, which I am thus pretty quick to sell. In this case though, I'm trying to just leave the amp on what I think will be a temporary holiday.

I'm keeping the faith that eventually I'll get it teamed up with the right guitar, to begin a new chapter.

You might want to look into a Bogner Ecstasy. It's got a Plexi mode, and from what I've heard from people who own them, there isn't anything they can't cover while sounding spectacular.

Not cheap, but then again, you won't get the tone you're looking for without spending a decent about of money.

my buddy's randall warhead w/ mesa 412 sounded very killer for metal @ the studio last nite. lots of gain and sustain.

I traded my Laney in for one of those solid state randall's back in the 80's.

I had the ugly gray carpetted one. I think it was an RG80 maybe. By itself it was kind of weak, but I through a Rat in front of it and it was killer for metal. Real thick compressed metal tone. Probably not good for much else, but I loved it.

I have tried a bunch of Randall's, and I am tempted to get one of those MTS model's. Probably just a smaller one.

I played on a few Randall's the last couple years, and they have consistently sounded great.

They also seemed pretty fragile unfortunately. But tone wise, they sound pretty good IMO.

I played a 50 watt MTS head into my Mesa 3/4 back cab with the Plexi module and it sounded real nice!

+1. I bought a Ecstasy 101b in January. Very versatile, kind of a jack-of-all-trades, while also being a master-of-all (as it should be at $3300+), especially the hot-rodded Marshall vibe. The only thing I've found it is slightly lacking in is really brutal modern metal, ala the Uberschall, but with an eq in the loop, it can even do a passable job at that. I really can't say enough about the Ecstasy, or Bogner in general. One of the few high dollar gear purchases I've made, and not second guessed myself afterwards.

For one, I never much cared for Plexi's. Always thought they were a little harsh and nowhere near smooth, not even for blues.

I know how you feel, man. I've owned Mesa after Mesa and kept thinking, "Man, if these are so badass, what else is out there." There are only 2 amps other than my Stiletto Deuce II, Trem-O-Verb, and early Rectifiers that stood out at all-- an Orange AD30TCH and my Soldano Hot Rod 50+. I still long for that Mesa edge, though.

Seriously, save up for a Stiletto. You won't be upset. The Fluid Drive mode alone is worth what you pay. Set that sucker atop a 4x12 with Greenbacks and don't look back...
