I fear for the author that the title of this thread may speak volumes...

I'm not the hottest technician on the planet by a long shot, but I play a Telecaster with weak-as pickups and only have the lead drive on 7 and the gain on 5. Why? Because it's already got sustain for days and days, and to make it sound good you still have to put effort in, rather than the EMG 81/85 combo, everything turned to 10 and scooped EQ autopilot that many tend to favor. I hate to be all 'internet-y' about it, but to say a Mark IV hasn't got enough gain is beyond comprehension to me!

Also, 'I know these are some of the best amps ever made'? Apparently not! Don't just take other's word for it. Use your ears - maybe it's just that you think the Mark IV is rubbish!

A friend had pointed this out and gave me a copy of a schematic.....now that I look at the schematic at schem. heaven...they're not exactly the same. Now that I've looked more closely, I must say I don't see them across the signal path....reference the "voicing" pane. Looks like could be switching....now I'm not so sure....sorry, didn't meant to mislead, although this is not the first time I've heard of reference to this. I'd say also you can't be certain of the accuracy of schematics on the web.....
