I've been building a head shell for my amp. Why I did this? I wanted to carry the amp with me without having to carry the heavy combo, because IMO the amp sounds a lot better through a cab. I have to admit I did it for fun too
I used Mahogany to get a good finish, bought from a local boat builder.
Finished cutting the wood.
Grille mounted. You can also see I use some wooden "props" to reinforce the construction.
Gluing the head.
First staining of the head.
Finished staining, begun putting some lacquer on it.
Finished lacquering!
Rubberfeet, carrying strap, grille behind and the amp is mounted. Finished!
From behind.
Head + 1x12" cab
I'm quite satisfied with the finish, it looks "70s" and a bit home-made (not mass produced).
